One of the well-known religious bodies in the country, Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has called off its meeting scheduled for this month over circumstances surrounding President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s whereabouts and his health condition.

PAC Executive Director Robert Phiri confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the privately owned radio on Tuesday.

Phiri said the body has been following rumours and concerns raised by many Malawians on the social media about the health condition of the President, his whereabouts hence postponing the meeting.

He said PAC has also called off the meeting due to some political interference by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) due to the fact that the meeting was also convened to elect some new office bearers.

“Our meeting held recently questioned government to explain to Malawians the whereabouts of the President and the exact business he is doing in the United States of America. With the recent political landscape in the country and the pressure that Malawians are having about the President we thought it wise to call off the meeting.

“The new date will be announced once President Mutharika returns from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA),” said Phiri.

Meanwhile Presidential Press Officer Mgeme Kalilani has announced that President Mutharika will be returning home this coming Sunday through Kamuzu International Airport.
