Hunger, maize that cost an arm and a leg forced man to kill his son in Dowa

A 44 year-old man in Dowa is on run after killing his 24 year-old son with a bicycle fork as the son failed to give back the borrowed Maize from his father.

According to Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Richard Kaponda , the incident happened Thursday at a local beer joint in Mg’adamika village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in the district.

He identified the father as Jimmy Chimoto and the son as Wilson Jimmy.

“What happened was that the deceased borrowed maize from his father a couple of days ago, and he was asked to return the maize but he told his father that at that time he did not have the maize to pay back,” Kaponda said.

The response angered the father who took a bicycle fork and started beating up his son on the head.

Later, the son became unconscious and he was taken to Dowa District Hospital where upon arrival he was pronounced dead. Postmortem conducted at Dowa District Hospital revealed that death was due to head injuries.

Police are yet to arrest the father as he is no where to be seen.
