Lusubilo Band shines at Lake of Stars

Joy and laughter characterized this year’s Lake of Stars which took place at Chintheche-in on the shores of Lake Malawi, found in the northern district of Nkhata-Bay.

The three-day events started on Friday September 30 to October 2 2016.

The show saw people across the country and outside Malawi especially those from United Kingdom and America coming together to have a feel and taste of local meals such as ‘Kondowole’ –meal made from Cassava flour with Chambo.

The event was spiced up by live performances by local and International artist namely; Roberto of Zambia, Freshly Grounds of South Africa, Patience Namadingo, the awarding winning hip & hop artist Tay-Grin, popularly Known as Nyau King, Theo Thomson, Faith Mussa, Ethel Kamwendo, Tamanyawaka Chavula, Lusubilo Band and other arts.

Of the entire artist that displead their talents during the three day events, Lusubilo Band of Karonga won the hearts of many with gigantic and well-coordinated dancing

The band performed song like ‘Mama am sorry’, the song highlighted some of the evil things that many youths indulge themselves in and after realizing his/her mistake returns to her/his parents for forgiveness.

The group also performed a song titled ‘Lupakisho I love you’. The song was all about a mother searching for her child to return home.

The group which recently travelled to United States of America also performed a song done by Lucky Dube and others.

The rhythm and the dancing dispread by the group forced the crowd to ask for more from the band but this did not yield any results due to time schedule.

The group, which was put together by Professor Agnes Kim through her Lusubilo Music Centre, proved they are one of the bands of the future.

Apart from the group, the show also saw Faith Mussa, one of the local well-known gospel musicians dishing out songs like ‘DIsperate for your love’, the newly released song titled’ Amayenda ndi Mdidi’ and other songs

Tay Grin also took to the stage by storm by hitting the yet to be released song titled ‘sugar Mami’, featuring Roberto of Amalura hit single of Zambia and Sonye.

The artist also performed the song titled Chipapapa featuring 2face of Nigeria and other songs from his previous albums.

Before Tay-Grin, Theo Thomson also made the crowds at the event to jump on the dancing floor when he performed song like ‘May be tomorrow’ from the newly launched album called White Elephants.

Time came for Freshly Grounds of South Africa who also headlined the event, the group performed one of the hit single that stole hearts of many people during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa titled ‘Waka-waka’ (This Time for Africa).

The group also for the first time performed together with local artist in the country and promised to record some songs with them.

Speaking after the event, Lake of Stars organizer and founder Will Jameson said he was impressed with people who turned out for the events.

Jameson also hailed all companies who played a role by sponsoring the event.

Lake of Stars Festival is an annual three-day international festival held on the shores of Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa.

The festival was started in 2004 and attracts over 3,000 attendees with musical acts from Africa and the United Kingdom.
