Teachers receive 2016 MSCE exam allowances

Teachers in the country especially those from the North and Central region have all the reasons to smile following revelations that Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) have released funds for teachers assigned to administer the just released Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.

Last week Friday, Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) called off the national wide strike by teachers across the country scheduled for yesterday after Treasury made an assurance that MANEB has been given the funding.

MANEB Public Relations Officer Simeon Maganga confirmed of the development in a statement released to the press on Tuesday.

“We are pleased to announce that we are finishing paying 2016 MSCE exam allowances to the remaining regions (Central and Northern). This follows last week’s funding of K700 million towards the exercise.

“The allowances are for the first days at Hoarding Centre, Practical Papers and Main Papers,” said Maganga.

Maganga said the body has since sent letters to Banks, instructing them to transfer funds to respective districts (Education and Police).

“We expect the transfers to be complete by Friday this week; hence, responsible officers should check with their respective banks beginning Friday,” added Maganga.
