Its tit for tat: Mutharika orders Chakwera to stop attacking his family

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has ordered opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to stop attacking his family.

Chakwera during a by-election campaign rally in Kaliyeka ward expressed doubtful as to whether President Mutharika is a true Malawian considering the fact that he is still maintaining his health insurance in United States of America while Malawians are suffering in the country.

The MCP President also wondered as to why Mutharika’s children are failing to return to Malawi.

Speaking during the Party’s Blue Night at Sanjika Palace, Mutharika said Chakwera has no right in commenting about his family while he is failing to put his house in order.

Mutharika said he was forced to marry outside the country due to the dictatorial reign of the MCP under late Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

Turning to the event, Mutharika bemoaned the spirit of self centeredness that exists among some members in the party.

“This party has no place for people who just think of “I, me and myself.”

We must be proud in sacrificing for our political cause. This party is us; and we are the party.”

He further reminded the gathering the role and the times in which the DPP exists as compared to previous ruling parties.

“The political mission of the Malawi Congress Party was to end colonialism and bring sovereign rule. The political mission of the United Democratic Front was to end dictatorship and bring democracy. Our political project is to develop this country. We are the hope of the people. That is why I urge you to adopt the spirit of self-sacrifice in serving the party,” said he.

He reiterated that the DPP is the only development conscious party in the country as evidenced by how it has transformed the country in a short period of time.
