Two armed thugs killed in Mulanje after a gunfight with the police

Angry villagers in Mulanje have beaten to death two suspected armed thugs who attacked police officers manning a road-block mounted at Ng’omba along Muloza-Mulanje Road.

National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera confirmed the development and thanked the villagers for their vigilance.

According to information sourced by this publication, the suspected armed thugs attacked officers manning a road-block mounted at Ng’omba along Muloza-Mulanje Road in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to Mulanje police Public Relations Gresham Ngwira, one of the thugs had a Parabellum (pistol) and shot Sub-Inspector Masautso Phiri on his left leg, grabbed an official BXP rifle before running into Mimosa forest.

“After receiving the information a follow up was made that led to the recovery of the pistol and the official BXP rifle. But it was after a gun-fire exchange.

Sub-Inspector Masautso Phiri was rushed to Mulanje District Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile the remains of the two identified as 32 year-old Edwin Mbwana and Chimwemwe Frank, 36 are being kept at Mulanje District Hospital.
