Atupele trains the media on Land-Related Laws and Bills

The minister of Lands Housing and Urban Development on Wednesday trained the media on Land Related Laws and Bills.

The training was held at Golden Peacock in Lilongwe, on sensitization on how to civic educate the public on Land related Laws and Bills.

The training was organized to train the media on land related bills so that through them Malawians can understand how the new Land laws and Bills work in the national land policy.

The minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Atupele Muluzi said his ministry is organizing sensitization meetings as well as trainings to various groups of people including the media so that all Malawians should be aware of the National Land Policy.

“There must be accountability and transparency to the nation as far as the story of land policy is concerned, lets civic educate people on how this laws are working,” said Muluzi.

He further explained that the land policy bill is not there to take land from the owners but what it is targeting is registration so that the owner of the land are safe and that the whole process is for free.

“We want the poor, who have the land but do not have money to have the chance in taking part by registering their land. Through this we can be empowering Malawians since they will have the heart of belonging to the country,” said Muluzi.

The aim of the National Land Policy is to ensure tenure security and equitable access to land to all Malawians through registration of those already possessing the land.

“The registration is not focusing on foreigners but those who already have the land and are citizens of the country. The chance is there to everyone who wants to register and use their own names on the document,” said Atupele Muluzi.

He added that change does not come at once, it needs time for people to understand what the change is all about and since they were used to the first laws, it will take time for them to appreciate the transformation.

“We will continue coming up with sensitization meetings with the media, private as well as government sectors so that they help us in bringing awareness to the nation. This will only be fruitful if they become the first to understand the issue of National Land Policy,” said Muluzi.

However there will be sensitization campaigns in various districts that will aim at civic educating people on Land- Related Laws and Bills across the country.mana
