In her speech Banda said: “at the end of the day, if you are talking about my political life, it is Malawians who will decide. If Malawians are saying I should continue; they want me to stand again, I shall go back home and answer that call.”

Banda said she is currently finishing her research on women’s leadership and girls’ education at the Woodrow Wilson Center and Center for Global Development (CGD) in Washington DC.JB with Mahama

She thanked Malawians and “all men and women” who worked with and for her for their valuable support that resulted in tremendous developmental achievements during the two years she was president.

Banda left the country just after the May 20, 2014 tripartite election which saw the then opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika emerging victorious.JB with Mahama 3

Her trip to United States of America attracted mixed reactions from all corners with others accusing her of running away from the ongoing investigations to the plunder of public funds dubbed cashgate the claims she denied.
