UK Minister announce additional K4b for pharmacy storage units

The United Kingdom has announced an additional K4b to boost essential health service delivery in Malawi.

Speaking when he visited Mitundu Community Hospital on Friday, UK’s Minister responsible for the Department for International Development (DfID), James Wharton said the extra amount will strengthen Malawi’s health system through the provision of 74 new pre-fabricated pharmacy storage units in health facilities.

The temperature controlled storage facilities will reduce the deterioration of medical supplies and help prevent theft.

“Its delightful that we are able to implement this activity in partnership with the US government.

“Collaboration of this kind makes our collective efforts go further. I would like to commend the professionalism and collegiality of both the US and Ministry of Health in implementing this activity,” he said.

Wharton further described the program as a great of US and UK governments working together to deliver a program which has real impact on the people of Malawi.

Director of Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Charles Mwansambo, commended the support of UK & US government in the field of health and promised that the equipment will be put to good use.
