Gwengwe to contest for Parliamentary by-elections in Lilongwe Msozi North

Date:

Presidential running mate of Dr. Joyce Banda in the May 20, 2014 tripartite election, Sosten Gwengwe has expressed interest to contest for Parliamentary seat in Lilongwe Msozi North Constituency which is expected to have a by-election.

The development means Gwengwe is re-locating from Dedza central constituency to Lilongwe Msozi North.

Lilongwe Msozi North Constituency fell vacant following the death of Highton Jiya on January 2.

Gwengwe confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the development comes following request from people.

“I have to think about their request,” said Gwengwe.

Gwengwe dumped opposition People’s Party (PP) just after the May 20, 2014 tripartite election which saw the then opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika emerging victorious.
