Just after the death of the World’s oldest woman Itaian Emma Morano died at the age of 117, a new title holder has emerged in person of Violet-Mosse Brown from Jamaica.

Violet Brown otherwise known as Aunt V was born on March 10, 1900, which is 67 years before Jamaica was founded. She has been a music teacher and church organist for over 80 years.

After her husband’s death in 1997, the woman took over his responsibilities and became a record-keeper for the local cemetery.Jamaican citizen, Violet Brown becomes world's oldest woman as she turns 117 (photos)

Face of Malawi gathered that her new title was confirmed by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who congratulated Brown on the achievement on Twitter. Brown immediately became the world’s oldest living person last week.

However, Dr Carlo Bava, Morano’s doctor, said he had last seen her on Friday when ‘she thanked me and held my hand’ as she did every time he called on her.

He added: “She didn’t suffer. I’m happy she didn’t suffer but passed away that way, tranquilly.”

Queen Elizabeth II also sent Violet a commemorative plaque when she became the oldest living person in the Commonwealth.

“This is what God has given me, so I have to take it, long life. I was a cane farmer. I would do every work myself and my husband, over that hill,” Violet Brown said in an interview in her home in the town of Duanvale in western Jamaica.Jamaican citizen, Violet Brown becomes world's oldest woman as she turns 117 (photos)

Brown said she has spent much of her life cutting sugarcane in the fields around her home. She attended church regularly, avoids pork and chicken and celebrated her 117th birthday on Friday, March 10.
