Helen Singh’s body to be cremated tomorrow

Abusa Helen Singh, the president of United Independence Party (UIP) died on Saturday night at an Adventist hospital in Blantyre after a long illness and her body will be cremated on Tuesday per her wish.

Singh contested for the presidential seat in 2014 tripartite elections and UIP spokesperson Asante Masanche has described her death as a blow to nation as she had a heart to help.

“We are so proud of her devotion to helping others as she sought to change the nation for the better.”

And Sam Mpasu, President of New Labour Party said Singh was unique in the sense that she was not shy in taking up business and political roles.

While Mark Katsonga who is President of the Peoples Progressive Movement (PPM), describes Sigh as a visionary female leader that knew what exactly what the country needed and will be truly missed.

Katsonga added that her death will have an impact on Malawian politics especially the opposition because political parties in the country are in the process of creating a coalition.

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesman Francis Kasaila said Singh made tangible developmental contributions to the country would be “greatly missed”.

“She had her own democratic principles from which we learned some things we argued,” he said.

According to a family representative, her body will be taken for cremation on Tuesday at  Sikh Temple in Limbe after her body being viewed would be at Comesa Hall in Blantyre around 9am same day .
