Police launches manhunt for people behind Chilima’s fake resignation letter

Police have launched a manhunt for suspected criminals who forged the fake letter claiming that the country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima is set to resign.

On Sunday, the social media was flooded with a fake letter purportedly written by the country’s Vice President addressing Preasident Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

In the letter, Chilima expressed dismay over President Peter Mutharika led government’s failure to meet the developmental agenda that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) promised during campaign.

The letter further claims that Chilima is unhappy over a media blackout from the state broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Station (MBC).

“Within the next 12 months I will resign and withdraw my services while transitioning to my successor,” reads part of the letter.

But Chilima through his Press Officer Pilirani Phiri denied authoring such a letter, saying it’s fake.

On his part, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Nicholas Dausi also expressed shock over the matter and urged the police to investigate the matter.

Police should follow up this letter to explore its depth. It is a serious offence to write something that can cause public disorder and doubts among people.

“We don’t know what the aim of the writer was. Police must make sure to find the person who is behind this unwelcome development,” Dausi said.
Meanwhile police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
