Hippo kills teenage girl in Rumphi

A 16-year old girl in Rumphi is reported dead after being attacked by hippopotamus in Rukulu River.

Police in Rumphi have confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi and the deceased has been identified as Rhoda Munthali.

According to police report, the deceased mate her fate on May 24, 2017 as she was swimming in the River together with her friend.

“Brief facts are that the deceased together with her friends went to Rukulu River for swimming and in the process she was attacked by the hippopotamus.

“She was rescued by her friends, later she was taken to Rumphi district hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival,” reads in part the statement.

Postmortem results conducted at Rumphi District Hospital revealed that death was due to lose of blood.
