Chief Lundu wants Bushiri’s church out of his area

Paramount Chief Lundu of Chikwawa who is also the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) hand clapper has ordered Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) church to close his branch in Chikwawa.

Chief Lundu said this in an interview with the press

In his remarks, Paramount Chief Lundu said he is not happy with the dealings of the ECG Church in the Southern District of Chikwawa and Nsanje.

According to Lundu, the action of the church is moral of a political field than the act of saving souls of Malawians.

He further described Bushiri as a Satanist.

Reacting to the sentiments, ECG Public Relations Officer Ephraim Nyondo described the decision by Lundu as unfortunate.

Nyondo said Prophet Bushiri will not go to war with the Chief.

Meanwhile Human right activist Billy Mayaya has criticized the Chief for the remarks and he has demanded an apology from the chief.

“Lundu must apologise to Christians and to the other Chewa kings for his foolish statements.

“Where does Paramount Chief Lundu get the gall to bar the branch of Enlightened Christian Gathering from operating a branch in his area? The Constitution of Malawi guarantees freedom of religion, movement and domicile. No chief has the power to act unilaterally and in a dictatorial manner over the operations of a church or any institution for the matter. Shame on this so called Paramount Chief!,” wrote Mayaya.
