Salima police publicist has confirmed the death of a fuel attendant in Salima district and a guard who sustained injuries on the night of Monday 10 July, after a group of robbers terrorized the town in two separate incidents.
The deceased has only been known as a 36-year-old who comes from Kafukule village Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba.
According to Salima police publicist Dave Chitowe, K500, 000.00 cash was stolen at Salima PUMA filling station.
“The robbers attacked the Filling station just after 12 midnight. They entered the office through the shop where they found the victim and shot him before taking the money he had in his pocket. They then turned to his partner who was also asked to surrender cash,” said Chitowe.
Chitowe added that the attackers came and left on foot.
The separate incident that involved a Burundian businessman, Vincent Nyongera had happened around 7 pm the same night.
It is said that three unidentified men who had followed him after business closure, forced their way past the gate man, who in quick reaction managed to tackle two of the robbers while he was shouting for help. The thugs shot the guard in his lower arm before vanishing without taking anything,” said Chitowe.
“We have not yet linked the two attacks. Preliminary investigation show that the attacks involved two different guns,” said Chitowe.
The two separate incidents happened within a space of 5 hours.
Police have since launched an investigation on the incidents.
