MCP chooses silence on Bushiri’s endorsement of Mutharika as best candidate in 2019

The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has urged its followers to stop comment on the remarks made by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) church, saying that ‘suffering Malawians are best judges.’

On Saturday, Prophet Bushiri told Malawians gathered during the Malawi Day commemorations organized by his Enlightened Christian Gathering church that if voting is held today he would vote for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Mutharika.

“If you asked me which party I would vote for if we were to go to the polls today, I would say DPP although it is a party that will not rest, but fight me,” he said.

Bushiri’s opinion has attracted debate on the social media especially MCP diehard mocking the man of God.

Writing on his official facebook page, MCP Deputy Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka urged his party followers to stop commenting anything regarding Bushiri’s remarks.

“May I request that we stop commenting and/or doing anything on Bushiri’s opinion. He has given his opinion as a person and he has not given the opinion as a “prophetic word”. As a person , he is guaranteed by the Republican Constitution a right to opinion and freedom of expression and association.

“Suffering Malawians are best judges!” wrote Mkaka.

Bushiri’s remarks have attracted excitement among DPP followers.
