Former ADMARC CEO Foster Mulumbe implicates Chaponda in maize-gate case

Former Admarc CEO, Foster Mulumbe, has implicated former Minister of Agriculture, George Chaponda, and one of the directors of Transglobe Produce Exports Limited, Rashid Tayub, for not following the laid out procedures for the supply of maize.

Mulumbe said this when he was testifying in the case on Tuesday at Blantyre Magistrate Court.

In his testimony, Mulumbe said Chaponda referred to him Transglobe as a potential supplier and canavassed for the State grain trader to buy maize from the company.

According to Mulumbe, after Chaponda introduced Transglobe, one of the directors of the company Tayub, approached him for a possible deal to supply the staple grain to Admarc.

When asked by lead counsel for the defence team, Tamando Chokhotho, why Admarc refused the offer from Transglobe a local company the contract to buy maize from Zambia, Mulumbe said ADMARC was not happy with the services of the company.

The case is expected to continue today.

Chaponda is answering three charges and Tayub of Transglobe Produce Export Limited is answering one of the charges.
