Patient killed in Ambulance accident in Lilongwe

A patient is reported dead after an Ambulance taking him to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) corroded with a with an Isuzu Van reg number NE 994 at Area 25 junction located at Kanengo along the M1 road.

Kanengo Police spokesperson Labani Makalani confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

“The accident occurred at about 11am today (on Wednesday the 18th April 2018).

“During this time, the ambulance was ferrying a patient and two guardians from Mtengowanthenga Health Centre to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH). When it reached at the said place it collided with the van which just joined the main road from area 25,” said Makalani.

He added: “The driver of the van had entered the road without checking while the ambulance was at close range.

“Due to the impact, about five occupants in both vehicles including the patient sustained minor injuries and were rushed to KCH using another vehicle.”
According to Makalani, the patient was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile medics have established that the patient did not die due to injuries sustained during the accident.
