Chisi’s vision is to see Malawi out of poverty

By Robert Kumwenda

Despite being one of the first countries to get its independence in southern Africa from colonialism, Malawi still remains one of the poorest countries in the World.

Malawi gets its independence in 1964 and became a republic in the year 1966, 53 years down the line, Malawians are still living in abject poverty, and illiteracy rate is high and unemployment rate in high especially among the youth.

But opposition Umodzi Party (UP) leader believes that the country can move out of poverty using human resource and the resources it has.

Chisi who is vying for Presidency in next year’s elections, said the leaders the country has had since independence had no vision on how they can develop the country.

He said the country has reached a point where it needs another vision looking at the challenges where it is going through.

One of the key to development is education which is one of the pillars for our manifesto, because educated people are the ones that can develop the country using the skills they have in their professionals, he said.

The UP leader said they will create a ministry for industrialization responsible for manufacturing companies for various products as one way of easing unemployment and rural urban migration which is currently high in Malawi.

He said form four leavers will be send to technical colleges to learn various skills for two years before being admitted to universities.

“Culprits for various offences will be trialed within six months, this is one way of ending corruption which has taken a center stage in this country and has negatively affect the countries progress on development,” he said.

He said the country is lacking people who have the ideas to move it out of poverty saying in UP they have the ideas and they will use to move the country from predominantly importing one to exporting.

Malawi is lacking behind in terms of development when compared to its neighboring countries, access to safe drinking water remains a challenge especially for people in rural areas .
