A 35-year-old man in Karonga has been killed by angry mob for stealing chickens.
The deceased has been identified as William Panja who met his fate on the night of 28 April.
Reports say on that day, the deceased went to Mr.Chota Munthali’s house at Mlare area where he managed to steal chickens from the kraal.
Mr Munthali noticed the strange noise.As he went outside his house, he saw a man carrying a sack. He started chasing him whilst shouting for help.
A lot of people came after hearing the shout and helped Munthali to apprehend the man who by then was found with full of chickens in the sack that brought suspicions of being stolen in different parts within the area.
People became angry and started assaulting him to death. Police arrived at the scene where only the dead body of the said suspected person was found.
The body was taken to Karonga district hospital where postmortem will be conducted.
William Panja Kaonga hailed from Mbilima village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa district.
