Namikasi Secondary School hostel gutted down by fire

Fire on Wednesday gutted down girls’ hostel at Namikasi Secondary School in Lirangwe Township in the commercial capital Blantyre destroying properties worthy millions, faceofmalawi can reveal.

Most of the girls, including those supported DreamShare Foundation and Step Kids Awareness (STEKA), an organization owned by Godknows Maseko lost almost everything, except what they were putting on when the fire did the damage.

Police in Blantyre confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

According to the police, Namikasi Secondary School Head teacher only identified as Mr Samson C. Kasungu reported that the fire started when classes were in progress.

“Brief facts are that on the said date and time the reporter was busy teaching in Form 3 North and while the class was progressing well, one of the students reported to him that the only girls hostel had caught fire.

“He, together with the students and fellow staff rushed to the scene crime where they tried to put off the fire using fire extinguishers but they failed as the fire had spread tremendously. It alleged that all properties such as beds, mattresses, students’ properties all got burnt.” reads in part the police report.


Added the police report: “The structure itself is beyond repair.”

Meanwhile the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
