Man drowns in fishpond after being attacked by bees

A 39 year old Mchinji farmer has died after drowning into a fishpond in an attempt to escape from a swarm of bees that attacked him on Saturday, May 26, 2018.

Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kaitano Lubrino said the man is Mkwekwe Kamwendo, who until his death was working as a casual labourer at Chokani farm in Traditional Authority Mlonyeni, reported for duties at the farm while drunk.

“Upon his arrival, his younger brother, Potiphar Elias who works at the farm informed him that one of the mango trees near the fish pond at the farm was swarmed with bees,” he said.

Immediately after receiving the news at around 12:00 hours, Mkwekwe Kamwendo is said to have gone to harvest the honey from the said tree.

Lubrino said the bees attacked him and in a bid to escape from the bees, fell into the fish pond where he drowned and died. His body was later discovered the following day.

Mkwekwe Kamwendo hailed from Kaliwekha Village Traditional Authority Mlonyeni.
