Malawi Police Officer Involved in Hit and Run Accident

A Malawi police officer in the northern part of Mzuzu has been seriously injured following a hit and run accident.

The officer has been identified as Sergeant Howard Chifunda Banda of Mzimba police station.

Reports say on the time of the incident, the officer was riding a pedal cycle from the direction of Mzuzu city heading towards the direction of Luwinga.

But upon reaching at LMD junction, he was hit by a motorcycle being ridden by unknown person who was joining the M1 road from the bus depot.

Due to the impact, the officer sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The motorcycle rider did not stop after the accident.

Banda aged 38 years comes from Binya village in the area of Traditional Kwataine in Ntcheu district.
