A 40-year-old man in Blantyre has been arrested for beating to death his three dogs.

Blantyre police spokesperson Ignatius Nkhwazi has identified the suspect as John Gawanani Banda who comes from Jumbe village in the area of traditional authority Kapeni in Blantyre.

Nkhwazi said on that day, the suspect had prepared his car to take the dogs for veterinary at Blantyre Society for Protection and Care of Animals (BSPCA).

“Due to the fact that the dogs were becoming difficult to get them into the car, he started kicking them with his boots mercilessly before getting them on to the boot of his car. Upon arrival at the vet in Blantyre, two female puppies were found dead due to fractured skull and spinal injury respectively, explained Nkhwazi.

Nkhwazi said one male puppy who sustained bleeding in the nose and mouth as well as a wound on pelvis died on Tuesday after being treated with pain relief medications.

Following all that, officials from BSPCA reported the matter to Ndirande police sub-station hence the suspect’s arrest.

Mr Banda has since been charged with cluety against animals contrary to section 3 (a)(b) Cap 66:01 of the laws of Malawi and he is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charges.
