Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima has disclosed that soon he will be leaving the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Chilima said this during a media briefing held on Wednesday morning at his office in the capital Lilongwe.

“I will eventually follow procedure and leave the DPP. At this stage I have not made a decision to stand as a presidential candidate,” said Chilima.

Chilima also thanked President Mutharika for picking him as a presidential running mate for the DPP in the 2014 elections, adding that he will continue cherishing the gesture.

Turning the much awaited DPP convention scheduled for this month, Chilima said he will not challenge Mutharika at the convention.

“I don’t want to be seen as causing confusion in the DPP. The DPP is an organised institution with its leaders,” he said.

Chilima went further by announcing that DPP has its owners and founders.
