DPP denies receiving MK40 million from MRA for the party convention

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has denied receiving donations from parastatals, private companies and individuals to help the party’s forthcoming convention scheduled for this month in the commercial capital Blantyre.

The social media is awash with a list of state owned companies that have contribution money to the ruling DPP ahead of its much awaited convention and one it being Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).

According to the list, MRA has contributed MK40 million to the event while MACRA has donated money amounting to MK20 million.

Apart from the two state owned companies, Lilongwe City Assembly has also donated MK5 million to the convention.

But DPP has trashed the claims, saying the allegations are false and the work of the opposition parties.

“We would like to inform all Malawians that the allegations are false and the work of the opposition political parties. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has not requested for finance or material support towards its forthcoming convention. As a party we been fundraising in the past and we have resources to manage our convention,” reads in part the statement.

The statement therefore urges all opposition political parties to concentrate on sharing with Malawians their visions and strategies if they were to govern people in the country than wasting their time spreading false stories.

“Ignore such lies and continue to be a people of integrity,” added the statement.

Meanwhile the party is yet to set the exact date for the convention.
