Police officer killed in motorcycle accident in Mulanje

A police officer in Mulanje is reported dead after being involved in motorcycle accident near Happy Landing Bottle store along Mulanje Luchenza road on Wednesday.

Police in Mulanje have confirmed of the accident in a statement made available to faceofmalawi and the deceased has been identified as Sergeant Marko Katete from Chisitu Police Unit.

According to the report, Katete was riding unregistered LIFO motorcycle from the direction of Chitakale Trading centre towards Chisitu Trading centre.

“On arrival at a place near Happy Landing Bottle store he hit unknown male pedal cyclist who Carried unknown male pillion passenger and was heading same direction.

“Following the impact the rider Marko Katete sustained fractured right leg and head injury. While the unknown pedal cyclist and pillion passenger escaped with minor injuries and was treated as outpatient. Motor cycle also got damaged,” read in part the police report.

According to the report, Katete died at the hospital.

Katete hails from Chunda village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba.
