MDF Soldier killed in road accident in Karonga

Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Soldier is reported dead while two other passengers have sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Ponda Stage in Chilumba, Karonga.

The accident happened in the early hours of Thursday, according to police report made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

According to the report, the Army Officer identified as Arthur Mkandawire was driving a Nissan Tilda Saloon registration number KA8060 from the direction of Chilumba turn off heading to Chilumba Jetty with two passengers on board.

“On arrival at Ponda Stage he lost control due to excessive speed as a result the vehicle went to the extreme offside of the road where it overturned sideways. Due to the impact, the driver sustained severe head injury and died on the spot.

“Two female passengers namely Dudu Blessings Gondwe, 33yrs of age from Lwezga Village, Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga sustained painful left leg and bruises on the left arm while Bridget Gondwe, 27yrs of age from Lwezga Village, Traditonal Authority Wasambo in Karonga C/o Jetty Private sec school, Box 76, Chilumba sustained a cut on the upper mouth, bruises on the face and painful chest and were treated as out patients,” reads in part the report.

Mkandawire hails from Chenyama Village, Traditional Authority Kalonga in Salima District.
