Govt denies disarming JB security officers

The government of Malawi through Minister of Information and Communications Technology Nicholas Dausi has refuted clams former President Joyce Banda’s security detail has been trimmed.

On Wednesday, Nation Publications Limited carried a story indicating that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has disarmed Banda’s Security detail.

The paper quoted Banda’s spokesperson Andekuche Chanthunya who said the development has affected the security of Banda.

Speaking in an interview with state owned Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Dausi described the news as untrue.

Dausi said the current regime respects all former Heads of State and there is no way they can embarrass and humiliate them.

He then warned those behind fabricating fake news that once caught they will be dealt with accordingly.

Meanwhile Banda’s spokesperson Andekuche Chanthunya has denied telling the media that former president’s security is compromised.
