Police in Dowa have arrested a 55 year old Evangelical Pentecostal Church pastor for defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The suspects has been identified as Matias Paul who committed t6he offence in March at Chimseu village in Dowa.
Dowa police public relations officer, Richard Kaponda said at the time of the incident, the victim was staying at Mtileni village in the area of Traditional Authority Khombedza in Salima district.
“On that day, the victim attended night prayers at the house of the said pastor together with other people. The prayers ended around 03;00 hrs and she slept there since she could not manage to go home that hour.
“The pastor later defiled the girl,” said Kaponda.
After some months, the mother of the victim noticed that the girl was pregnant.
Upon interrogation, the girl revealed what happened on the said night.
The matter was then reported to Mvera police on 15th July, and the victim was sent to Mvera Mission hospital in the district for medical examinations where the results showed that she was indeed pregnant.
Kaponda said the pastor has since admitted to defiling the girl.
He will appear in court soon to answer charges of defilement.
