Three nurses fired for chasing pregnant woman in labour ward

Three nurses at Phalombe Health Centre have been fired for chasing a pregnant woman from labour ward during the time of delivery.

The development forced the pregnant woman with the help of her mother to deliver the baby in a drain behind the toilets.

The incident happened in January this year.

Phalombe District Health Officer Ketwin Kondowe has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press and identified the three as Maureen Chilikutali, Mphatso Chanza and Mercy Sonjera.

“It’s true that they have been dismissed as you recall that initially they got interdicted so as to give room to local authority service commission to look into the matter and make a determination,” Kondowe was quoted as saying on state owned Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

Kondowe has since advised nurses across the country to discharge their duties professionally.
