A girl aged 17 has committed suicide by consuming poison after her boyfriend denied to take responsibility of her four months pregnancy.
According to Ntcheu Police Spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, after being discovered pregnant, the parents of the girl took her to the man responsible to discuss a way forward.
However, the boyfriend denied to have been the one who impregnated the teenage girl and said he cannot take her as a wife.
Later, the girl consumed poison and she was taken to Ntcheu District Hospital where she died in the process of receiving medical treatment.
A postmortem done at the facility revealed the death was due to poisoning.
