DPP aspiring candidates for MPs and Ward councilors urged to support those that will win

By Robert Kumwenda

Aspiring candidates for the positions of Members of Parliament (MPs) and ward councilors who wants to stand under the ticket of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the fourth coming tripartite elections in 2019 have been urged to support that will win.

Information, Communications and Technology minister Nicholas Dautsi said this in an interview with face of Malawi.

He said those who wants to stand under the party’s ticket have been given chance to campaign and the party is not imposing anyone to the people.

“The reason why people stand as independents is the result of political parties imposing people as against the wishes of their supporters that is the reason why we need free ground for campaign,” he said.

He said those who want to stand should be real members of the party, not bankrupt with no criminal record.

Dausi said all regional governors for the party have been asked not to favor anyone.

On the same development Director for Elections for the party Ben Phiri they are developing calendars for the primaries so that those who aspire to stand under the party’s ticket should get to understand and know the parties strategies.

He said the process of vetting and scrutinizing will take place so as to make sure that by the end of everything the best candidates should win.

“The aspiring candidates have been asked to collect forms from the Directorate of Elections so that they should know rules and regulations of our party before they fill it,” he said.

Phiri said women are also encouraged because the party believes in women empowerment saying that DPP is the only party that has a woman for the position of Secretary General adding that that is the reason why its president was chosen to be the chairman for He and She campaign.
