MBC reporter suspended over fake news picture of Mzuzu Highway

Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) reporter Austine Kakande has been suspended for allegedly posting a fake news picture of Mzuzu dual carriage way currently under construction.

Last week, MBC posted an update on the status of Mzuzu dual carriage way project but instead the state broadcaster used a photo of A30 Chiverton Cross to Carland Cross road, west Cornwall, England.

The picture attracted mixed reactions with many criticizing the state broadcaster accusing the media of lying to Malawians on the status of the said construction project.

Reacting to the accusation, MBC reacted by suspending the online reporter Austine Kakande for posting a fake photo.

MBC Director General Aubrey Sumbuleta confirmed the suspension of Kakande in an interview with one of the local daily papers.

According to Sumbuleta, Kakande violated MBC’s terms and conditions of services.
