Umodzi Party expects to have free and fair elections at its convention

By Robert Kumwenda

Opposition Umodzi Party (UP) say they expect to have free, fair and credible elections at its national indaba slated for 29 September in Blantyre.

Sadana Tamanda Bakili Deputy Publicity Secretary for the party made these remarks in an interview with face of Malawi.

She said the party has engaged professional and independent to ensure that there should be transparent and accountability in the whole process.

“The youth and women are being encouraged to contest in various positions because the party believes in promoting the youth and women empowerment,” she said.

Bakili said so far party structures are strong on the ground and more people have already shown their interest to contest as Members of Parliament (MPs) and ward councilors under the party’s ticket in May 2019 tripartite elections.

This is because people are tired with disgruntled politicians, they need someone who can bring in change and that person is none other than Professor John Chisi.

“Let me take this opportunity as Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is carrying out voter registration to urge Malawians to go and register and vote for Professor John Chisi to realize their dream for a better Malawi where issues of unemployment and injustice will be a thing of the past,” she said.

She said most of the politicians that are making noise were in the same government and have failed to develop even their constituencies.

Time has come for Malawians to usher in new people with new ideas and those who really have passion to improve the livelihoods of ordinary Malawians in the village.
