Man commits suicide by drinking pesticide

A 73 – year – old man identified as James Fly has died after poisoning himself in Balaka, Police have confirmed.

Balaka Police Station Public Relations Officer, Precious Makuta confirmed the incident to Malawi News Agency (Mana) Tuesday last week, saying the reason for the suicide has not yet been established.

“According to the wife of the deceased, the man took Cypermethrin (a cotton insecticide chemical) and poisoned himself. It is not known what prompted him to take away his own life.

This happened on August 18, 2018 at Nduta Village in Traditional Authority Nsamala, but Fly died a day later at the hospital,” Makuta added.

The police publicist disclosed that postmortem conducted at Balaka District Hospital indicated that death was due to poisoning.

Meanwhile, Balaka Police Station would like to appeal to members of the general public that suicide is not a solution to one’s problems.

Fly hailed from Nduta Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsamala in the district.
