YONECO Executive director Macbain Mkandawire has stressed the need for monitors who will participate in the forthcoming general elections not to be biased so as to achieve peaceful elections next year.
In his opening remarks during a two-day training workshop on Violence Against Women in Election and the Bio-Metric Voter Registration exercise that took place at Annie’s Lodge, Mkandawire who is also a publicity secretary at The Malawi Electro Support Network-MESN mentioned that by virtue of being selected as monitors, they are expected to deliver accordingly.
He also echoed the importance of not taking sides, but rather reporting issues without any political affiliations despite belonging to different political parties and finally, respecting the channel of communication so as to report cases of violence happening to women who want to undertake different leadership positions.
The training which was organized by MESN aimed at equipping knowledge to monitors on how to conduct themselves during the Voter registration exercise that is currently underway in different parts of the country and also reporting cases of abuse that women who are potential candidates are facing in various constituencies.
