Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody a 33-year-old man for allegedly being found with cannabis sativa, locally known as chamba.
Foster Benjamin who is Chikwawa Police Station public relations officer has identified the suspect as Chifundo Gera who was nabbed on Wednesday.
Drugs and narcotics officers from National Police Headquarters busted him at Juwaki Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje District.
“At the time, the police, in conjunction with officers from Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board, were on operation duties and got tipped off about the suspect selling the illicit herb in his shop, “said Benjamin.
The law enforcers stormed into the said shop and seized 73 twists and loose cannabis sativa packed in two separate plastic bags.
Gera was immediately apprehended and taken to the nearest Chikwawa Police Station.
He is admitting the charge, and expected to appear in court on Friday.
Gera hails from Juwaki Village in the area of T/A Mlolo in Nsanje District.
