Chikwawa Man Lands in Custody after Killing a Friend During a Bar Fight

A 35-year-old Chikwawa man is being kept in custody for allegedly beating to death another man after a fight erupted between them at a bar.

Police public relations officer, Foster Benjamin has confirmed of the incident and identified the suspect as Lomo Batch and the victim as 36-year-old Jevason Gwadani.

According to the PRO, the two were on Sunday evening drinking beer at Nyozelera Village under Traditional Authority (T/A) Kasisi in the district.

“The suspect, Batch invited some friends to join them boozing but that did not go well with Gwadani hence an argument started.

“Their argument culminated into a fight which didn’t last long as fellow imbibers separated the two. Batch picked up his way home, only to be followed by Gwadani who was still spoiling for a fight, “explained Benjamin.

The two resumed exchanging blows and Gwadani fell unconscious.

Some wellwishers rushed him to Chikwawa District Hospital but he was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the facility.

An autopsy indicated that he had succumbed to head and chest injuries due to assault.

“Gwadani’s relations, in apparent retaliation, invaded the suspect’s shop at Chadula Village in the area and burned it down,” added Benjamin.

Meanwhile, a case of arson has since been filed and investigations are still on to bring those responsible to account.

Gwadani came from Nyozelera while Batch hails from Chadula both in the area of T/A Kasisi in Chikwawa District.
