42-year-old animal handler identified as Dickson Ulaya has died after drinking excessive locally distilled beer of Kachaso on an empty stomach.
Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Amina Tepani Daudi said the tragedy occurred on the afternoon of October 3, 2018 at Matapwata bottlestore within Mangochi township.
It is reported that, until his death Dickson was working as Animal handler at Mangochi Agriculture Department.
“Since he got his September pay last week, Dickson has been absenting himself from duties and was seen enjoying himself in different drinking sprees around the township.
“On this fateful day, Dickson collapsed after drinking excessively at the said bottlestore,”said Daudi.
He was rushed to Mangochi District hospital by good samaritans where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Postmortem conducted at the same hospital confirmed that death was due to excessive beer without taking any food.
Dickson hailed from Village Kambeta in the area of traditional authority Mlumbe in Zomba.
