Police officer arrested for defiling a 14 year old girl while in cell

Police at Mponela in Dowa district have arrested their fellow officer who is suspected to have defiled a 14 year girl who was in police custody at Chisepo Police Unit in the district.

Officials from Malawi Human Rights Commission disclosed this on Monday when they visited the police unit in their investigation on human right violation in the case.

Authorities at Mponela police are yet to comment on the matter.

Senior group village headman Nkhanyu of the district told Zodiak Online that police officer from Mponela held an audience with the local chiefs on Saturday where they apologized for the defilement incident.

According to the chief, the meeting did not end well as the local chiefs turned down the apology, although the cops pleaded with them to take heart, saying their concerns will be addressed.
