Malawi Law Society says Mutharika’s Cabinet is illegal

Malawi Law Society has described President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s new cabinet as illegal and it violates the country’s constitution.

President Mutharika on Wednesday reshuffled his Cabinet omitting the Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also leader of the newly formed United Transformation Movement (UTM).

Mutharika also roped in some news faces in the Cabinet and one of the news faces being Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha.

The omission of the Vice President in the new Cabinet has attracted mixed reactions from Malawians with many accusing Mutharika of raping the constitution.

Commenting of the development Malawi Law Society President Alfred Majamanda described the new cabinet as illegal.

Majamanda says according to the law, the Vice President must be in the cabinet whether he is in good terms with the President or not.
