8 street kids arrested for attacking two Namiwawa primary school pupils

8 street kids also known as “Masikini” arrested in Blantyre for Unlawful wounding of two Namiwawa primary school pupils.

Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer Augustus Nkhwazi of the arrest in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

According to Nkhwazi, the victims who are both sixteen years old and in standard eight at the said school, were on Tuesday November 27, 2018 at around 0600 hours on their way to school.

“As they were about to join Namiwawa road close to Alliance General in the heart of Blantyre City, a group of street children descended on them demanding to be given some money the victims supposedly might have been given as pocket money by their parents.

“As the victims were reluctant to give the money, the suspects turned violent and stabbed one in the head such that he was sutured (3 stitches) at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and another sustained a scratch in the head,” said Nkhwazi

He added: “A report was made to Police. The police on the same day arrested two of the suspects aged 16 before raiding a video showroom in the morning of Wednesday November 28 in Mbayani where six more suspects were arrested.”

The kids were using the video showroom as their lodging place.

Meanwhile, the victims have identified three of the suspects to be the ones who attacked them.

Subsequently, the three suspects have also confessed to have committed the crime and have since been charged with Unlawful wounding.
The other five suspects will be charged with being Idle and Disorderly.

They will be appearing before court soon to answer the charges.

The suspects’ ages range from 13 to 17 years old and all hail from Mbayani traditional authority (TA) Machinjiri in Blantyre.
