Court sustains an injunction against Mahatma Gandhi’s statue construction

The High Court in Blantyre has sustained an injunction restraining the construction of Mahatma Gandhi statue in the commercial capital.

Two weeks ago, a grouping operating under the banner of Mahatma Gandhi Must Fall Movement led by Pemphero Mphande obtained an injunction restraining Plem Construction from continuing with the construction of Gandhi at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Roundabout in Blantyre.

High Court Judge Mark Tembo set November 12, 2018 as a day for the interparte hearing but lawyers representing the State did not show up for the case.

The development forced the Judge Tembo to sustain the injunction to the delight of the lawyer Nicely Msowoya who is representing the concerned citizens.

Meanwhile Minister of Information and Communications Henry Mussa is yet to comment on the matter.
