UTM supporters involved in accident after being attacked by DPP thugs in Salima

Close to 10 members of the newly registered United Transformation Movement (UTM) on Sunday were involved in an accident following an attacking by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) thugs in Salima, faceofmalawi can reveal.

UTM leader in Salima identified as Mike confirmed of the accident in an interview with the press, saying the accident happened close to Mlambe Trading Centre.

According to Mike, after receiving t-shirts and other regalia UTM supporters boarded a lorry to attend a rally organized by some top officials in the party in the district.

“When the lorry was about to depart, some unknown people believed to be ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) came from the bush and attacked the lorry. Due to the attack 10 UTM supporters fell down,” he said.

He said the DPP thugs wanted to stop UTM supporters from attending the rally organized by Saulos Chilima in the district.

The victims were rushed to Salima District Hospital where they were treated as outpatients.

Salima Police Public Relations Officer Jacob Khembo asked for more time when asked to comment on the matter.

Effort to talk to DPP Spokesperson Nicholas Dausi proved futile.
