Eight Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth cadets are in police cell for allegedly assaulting a law enforcer at Kawale Police station in the capital Lilongwe.
National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzela confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press, saying the cadets stormed Kawale police apparently to demand release of one of their own who was arrested on conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
“When the police refused to bow down to their demand, they roughed up and assaulted the police officers both verbally and physically,” said Kadadzera.
Kadadzera said the youth cadets injured two police officers on duty during the uncontrollable commotion at the police unit on Monday.
DPP Spokesperson Nicholas Dausi while condemning the violent act said the party is investigating the matter.
Meanwhile the DPP youth cadets will appear in court soon.
