“Blood-Like” River Water Causes Panic in Dedza

Fear engulfed residents of Nthandizi and Airfield in Dedza District on Wednesday after the source of Linthipe River discharged blood-like stuff instead of water which normally flows in it.

The incident happened around 2 pm on Wednesday, according to eyewitness who posted photos of the river on social media.

It is alleged that some women who went to the river to draw water and wash clothes were surprised that instead of water, it was blood like stuff that was flowing in the river.

The incident shocked them and they reported the matter to police and the Chiefs.

“As usual, we came to this place to wash our clothes besides drawing water for home use. But to our surprise we saw that blood like stuff was flowing in the river. This scared us and we called some people to witness the bizarre circumstances,” one of the eyewitnesses was quoted as saying.

Dedza Police Deputy Publicist, Cassim Manda confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Manda, the police engaged Dedza district hospital to conduct some tests.

Unconfirmed reports reaching this publication indicate that the discharge is from a red oxide mine located closer to the river.
