Businessman arrested for killing his own worker

A Mulanje based businessman, John Mateyu, has been arrested for allegedly being involved in the brutal murder of his maize mill worker, Yasin Kawinga at Nkando Trading Centre in the district.

Mulanje Police Spokesperson Sergeant Gresham Ngwira confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).

Ngwira said the deceased was also working as security guard at a certain shop at the trading centre at night.

“It was reported on Thursday last week that Mr. Kawinga went missing and he was found dead along Namulenga river bank on Friday, some kilometers away from Nkando,” said Sergeant Ngwira.

According to the police PRO, it appeared Mr. Kawinga was beaten by some metal objects.

He said police picked two guards at the trading centre and when questioned the two mentioned Mr. Mateyu to be behind the murder of Mr. Kawinga.

Sergeant Ngwira said Mr. Mateyu, a transporter and farm produce trader, was arrested on Tuesday.

Mateyu hails from Nkando village in Traditional Authority Juma in the district.
