A 35-year-old man in Chikwawa district committed suicide on Saturday after arguing with his first wife.

Chikwawa Police Station Public Relations Officer, Constable Foster Benjamin has identified the victim as Robert Wisikesi who had two wives and he hanged himself in a tall tree in his garden.

Benjamin said the incident occurred around 2 PM at Mwalija Village in Traditional Authority Kasisi in the district.

“Wisikesi, on Friday evening, visited his second wife as per his schedule.

“Before long, the first wife followed up him and started accusing him of starving her and her kids back home,” said Benjamin.

Following that, a row broke out between the couple which lasted into the night.

Later, the angry wife returned to her home until the husband approached her in the morning (Saturday).

“Wisikesi spent a few hours and went out on a drinking spree in the village. He is said to have returned home at around midday, much to the anger of the wife.

“A fierce argument ensued and the husband hinted that he would terminate his life,”Benjamin said.

After the quarrel, Wisikesi told his wife that he was going to cultivate in his garden.

An hour later, the wife traced the husband and found him hanging from tree in the garden.

Police and medical personnel visited the scene and took the body for an autopsy which showed that Wisikesi had died of suffocation.
